Rolling BJJ

Rolling BJJ is a roll‑based analysis service in Effingham, Illinois. I’m Anthony, a grappler with two years of Brazilian Jiu‑Jitsu experience and multiple competitions with Effingham Risen AJJ. Instead of traditional coaching, I focus on studying your live rolls, identifying patterns and weaknesses, and documenting them clearly so you know exactly what to drill.I curate techniques from high‑level instructionals that directly address your specific gaps, and if you want, I’ll help you run the drills that reinforce those solutions. It’s not teaching — it’s targeted analysis, structured feedback, and improvement planning built around your actual rolling.

Where to start?

First, I recommend coming to the free open mats to get a feel for jiu jitsu. If you have no experience, feel free to observe first. Open mat means any Zone member is welcome to join in to observe or live roll. Live roll means that two people will typically start standing and attempt to submit each other within a time limit. A submission could be a joint lock (e.g. armbar) or choke (e.g. rear naked choke) that requires the other person to "tap" before resulting in injury.Rolling is a great way to expose weaknesses in your game and see how you perform in a live grappling situation. When you are ready to take the next step in improving your game, book a rolling session to figure out exactly what you need to improve in your game.Come back to the open mats and drill those techniques or alternatively book a drilling session to work just on that technique. When you are confident in that technique and find yourself stuck again, book another rolling analysis session.Rinse and repeat.
